Ebonyi Man Remanded After Allegedly Killing Mother Over Dispute
Oforbuike Damian is remanded by a Magistrate Court in Ebonyi after allegedly stabbing his mother to death following a dispute. He admitted to the offence in court.
A Magistrate Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has ordered the remand of Oforbuike Damian, 30, accused of killing his mother in a violent domestic dispute.
The alleged incident occurred on March 19, 2026, in Ukawu, Onicha Local Government Area, where Damian is said to have stabbed his mother, Onyema, to death.
The dispute was reportedly triggered by the mother’s refusal to carry out a spiritual bath for him and to establish a barbing salon for his brother.
After the incident, the suspect fled but was later apprehended by community members and handed over to authorities.
He was arraigned before the court by the Police Directorate of Legal Services under Chinagorom Eze.
In court, the defendant—who had no legal counsel—admitted to the offence.
The charge sheet states that he allegedly caused his mother’s death by stabbing her with a knife, an offence punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Law of Ebonyi State.
Presiding Magistrate Agnma Chinedu Agnma ruled that the court lacks jurisdiction over the matter, ordering the suspect’s remand and directing the Director of Public Prosecutions to take over the case.
Proceedings were adjourned until April 9, 2026.
