The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has advised political parties contesting the Osun governorship election to avoid violence, hate speech, and abusive language as campaign activities commence on Wednesday.

The warning was issued by the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, in a statement released Tuesday in Osogbo by the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Musa Olurode.

“INEC, Osun, wishes to remind political parties, candidates and their supporters that in line with the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2026 Osun governorship election, political campaigns will officially start on Wednesday, March 11,” Agboke said.

He urged political actors to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful and orderly manner and comply strictly with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and the commission’s guidelines.

“Political parties are particularly reminded to adhere to the provisions of the law which prohibit the use of abusive language, hate speech, violence or any act capable of disrupting public peace during campaigns.

“Political parties and candidates are also advised to focus on issue-based campaigns that will enable voters to make informed choices at the polls,” he added.

Agboke further called on political parties, candidates, supporters, security agencies, civil society organisations, the media, and the public to help ensure that the campaign period remains peaceful.

He reiterated that INEC is committed to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure a conducive environment for political activities and to deliver a credible, inclusive, transparent, and violence-free governorship election in Osun scheduled for August 15.
