Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development was disclosed on Monday at the Government House in Gusau by the Deputy Governor, Malam Mani Mummuni, who spoke on behalf of the governor.

Mummuni said the decision came after extensive consultations with key political stakeholders across Zamfara State. He noted that the move was endorsed during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Rescue Hall of the Government House following a wide political consultation initiated by the governor to evaluate the state’s political landscape.

He explained that the defection was influenced by the deepening crisis within the PDP and the need to foster greater unity to address Zamfara’s pressing security and development issues.

According to him, stakeholders advised the governor to join the ruling party and support its Renewed Hope agenda for the sake of stability, progress, and the overall development of the state and Nigeria.

The deputy governor called on supporters and political actors in the state to begin registering with the APC as the party launches its e-registration platform aimed at strengthening its membership in Zamfara.

He said the governor’s decision demonstrates his commitment to unity, stability, and fast-tracked development for the people of the state.

The defection comes after weeks of speculation about Lawal’s potential exit from the PDP, which gained momentum following the Court of Appeal ruling on the PDP convention in Oyo State on Monday.
