For The Sake Of This Roman Catholic Nun You Need To Know This Fact -By Joe Dauda

If your conscience is not yet dead, you will feel like weeping for this young woman. And you will understand why I always say I want Jesus Christ to come back. It’s an evil world and only the second coming of Jesus Christ will bring evil to an end.

Anastasia Kinse

On Tuesday morning, I read about the pathetic story of one Reverend Sister Anastasia Kinse, a Roman Catholic Nun who served under the Auchi Catholic Arch Diocese in Edo State. According to this Reverend Sister (and Reverend Sisters are not known to be reckless in making public statements) her troubles began after she exposed what she described as a “sexual rot” within the church, which eventually led to her dismissal from Veritas University, Abuja, where she worked. She explained how she was sexually harassed by different priests and how her efforts to get justice seemed to have been rebuffed by the church’s administrators. She also said she has video and audio evidence in the case of a particular priest, and it seems it was this very case that led to her dismissal.

Ordinarily, I would not have wanted to get involved in a matter between a church member and her church, but I want Nigerians to have the right perspective. If not, some people will not be merciful to this woman and may even hate her wrongfully, not knowing that her case is genuine and just one out of many. I know there is sexual corruption in many churches and that this sexual corruption is actually part of the reason why some of the victims of the sexual corruption end up hating religion, hating God, and being bold atheists who will tell you to reserve a place for them in hell fire if you dare attempt to preach the gospel to them. Unfortunately, such people became rebels because religion failed them. If you know what especially men have perpetrated against women and even little boys in their care under religious settings, you will wonder if they were possessed by demons or if they were cloned into existence by Satan himself. Remember I said there is sexual corruption and exploitation in virtually all churches, so this piece should not be misconstrued just because it focuses on the Roman Catholic Church, even though I must concede, based on what I know, that the cases in the Roman Catholic Church seem spectacular in that the victims of priests’ sexual abuse includes young boys (meaning they are sodomized) apart from little girls (meaning there are priests who are pedophiles) apart from the usual cases of women and girls. And Nuns are women and girls. An analyst will be tempted to correlate this shocking fact with the fact that these priests are required to live their lives without marriage, meaning that every sexual act a priest ever engages in must be illegal and even illegitimate. And are they not more likely to feel sexual tension if their duty sometimes requires them to listen to lurid details of sexual escapades from both men and women without any legitimate means of meeting their own natural sexual needs? I don’t know but perhaps there is a correlation between the two.

For your information, the matter of sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church is so serious it has become the most serious public relations scandal for the church in recent decades. And the best way to help you understand that Reverend Sister Anastasia may be a real victim rather than someone just looking for attention is to show you the numbers. In dollars. The amount of dollars the Roman Catholic Church has paid in out of court settlements to victims of sexual abuse. In the United States alone. And the United States only has a fraction of the world’s Roman Catholic membership. Whether you are Catholic or not, this information ought to give you some concern. And to show you the frailty of humans. Indeed we need a saviour. Thank God for Jesus Christ.

To establish this fact in numbers, I decided to have an interesting conversation with ChatGPT. And here is a transcript of my conversation. It tells the story in an interesting manner. Read and believe what you read (because it’s true) and say a prayer for Reverend Sister Anastasia. May all things work together for good in her life and in the lives of all other presumed victims of the sexual deviance of men who bear God’s name—not just in the Roman Catholic Church, but in all churches and in other civilized spaces of human society.

My Chat With ChatGPT

Me: Hi ChatGPT

ChatGPT: Hi! How’s your day going?

Me: Great.

ChatGPT: That’s awesome to hear. Got anything fun or interesting planned for today?

Me/ Yes. I have a question.

ChatGPT: Of course! What’s your question?

Me: Someone is claiming that the Roman Catholic Church in the United States alone has paid up to $6 billion in out-of-court settlements to victims of sexual abuse by priests of the Roman Catholic Church. What a bloody lie!

ChatGPT: Actually, the claim that the U.S. Roman Catholic Church “alone has paid over $6 billion” in out-of-court settlements to victims *is not far from the truth — there is solid evidence that the total is **at least** around **$5 billion** over the past 20 years, and there are indications it may exceed $6 billion depending on what settlements and costs are included. ([bishop-accountability.org][1])

Here’s a breakdown to clarify:

✅ What credible sources say

* A report by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) at Georgetown University found that between 2004 and 2023, U.S. Catholic dioceses, eparchies, and men’s religious communities paid just over $5,025,346,893 (~$5.03 billion) in costs related to allegations of sexual abuse of minors. ([bishop-accountability.org][2])

* Most of that (about 87%) was paid by dioceses and eparchies; the rest by religious communities. ([bishop-accountability.org][2])

* A recent large settlement: the Los Angeles Archdiocese agreed in October 2024 to pay $880 million to 1,353 abuse survivors. ([Reuters][3])

* Another large one: the Diocese of Rockville Centre in New York made a settlement of $323 million around September 2024. ([Franciscan Media][4])

⚠️ Why there is some ambiguity

* The number “over $6 billion” depends on what is counted:

* Some payouts are confidential or not publicly reported, so estimates may be incomplete.

* “Costs” include not only **settlements** but also legal fees, therapy, support services, defense costs, sometimes even payments related to alleged abusers. Some estimates include all those, others focus strictly on the amounts paid to victims. ([bishop-accountability.org][2])

* Some older settlements may fall outside the 2004-2023 window; inclusion of earlier ones could push totals upward.

* One article (OSV News) noted that when adding the latest major settlements to the previously tracked amounts, totals **could exceed $6.24 billion** if certain earlier payouts (e.g. a 2007 payout by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles) are not already included. ([complicitclergy.com][5])

### 🔍 Conclusion

So, the claim that “they’ve paid over $6 billion” is not “a bloody lie” — it’s quite plausible, depending on how you count things. The more conservative, well-documented figure is ~**$5 billion** over two decades, but with recent large settlements, and some possibly less documented ones, the “more than $6 billion” figure is credible.

If you want, I can try to find a very up-to-date tally (including all recent settlements) to see whether the figure has indeed crossed $6 billion in confirmed amounts. Do you want me to pull that together? I decided to end the conversation at this point rather than keep engaging ChatGPT. But I believe the point is made.

Please pray for Reverend Sister Anastasia.

If you are a member of the Roman Catholic Church, don’t just pray. Send this article to your priest and ask them to do something to help the struggling Nun. There is probably no group you can find who are dedicated to the Roman Catholic Church like Nuns. These are people who have literally denied themselves and decided to dedicate their entire lives to the Catholic Church. For one of them to publicly say something inimical to the Church she loves must mean she had no option. If you are a person of conscience, do something, especially if you are a Roman Catholic. You may end up saving, not just Reverend Sister Anastasia, but many more possible victims. And thanks in advance for your help.
