King’s College: Police Deploy Officers as Parents’ Protest Continues
King’s College, Lagos, has come under heavy police presence after parents protested the concession of the institution to its Old Boys Association.
The premises of King’s College, Onikan, Lagos, were on Wednesday taken over by policemen deployed from various formations across Lagos State following days of protests by parents.
The increased police presence came a day after some parents reportedly clashed with officers and members of the school’s Old Boys Association during a confrontation.
By Wednesday morning, the protesting parents were no longer seen near the school gate, as police vehicles and officers had blocked roads leading to the institution’s main entrance.
Motorists travelling from the Tafawa Balewa end and heading towards the CMS bus stop were diverted to other routes as a result of the police deployment.
Meanwhile, members of the King’s College Old Boys Association began arriving at the school for a meeting on the controversy surrounding the Federal Government’s decision to concession the institution to the association.
Among those who arrived as of 11am were the association’s National President, Ibrahim Kassim Imam, and former Nigerian Bar Association President, Mr Olumide Akpata.
The concession has triggered protests and opposition from some groups, with stakeholders expected to deliberate on the way forward.
