Leadership With Legacy: Lessons From Buhari -By Yasir Shehu Adam

To our governors, members of the National Assembly, and other public office holders: learn from Buhari. Use the resources entrusted to you for the development of your people. Build infrastructure, improve education, and strengthen healthcare. Your name will be remembered not by the cars you drive or the mansions you build, but by the lives you change.

Muhammadu Buhari

The death of Former President Muhammadu Buhari is not just the end of a life—it is the passing of a man who left behind a legacy of humility, discipline, and service. In a time when many leaders see power as an opportunity to enrich themselves, Buhari stood out as a man who returned home after his years in office with simplicity and contentment.

He did not chase luxury houses or gather fleets of expensive cars. Instead, he showed us that true leadership is about serving people, not serving self. Buhari’s lifestyle after leaving office is a lesson for every governor, every senator, and every representative in Nigeria today.

Our current leaders must look closely at his example. Power is temporary, but character and legacy last forever. Imagine a Nigeria where every leader finishes his tenure and goes back to live quietly among his people, leaving behind roads, schools, hospitals, and jobs—not abandoned projects and unpaid salaries.

Buhari’s legacy teaches us that humility and integrity are greater than power and wealth. Let his life be a mirror before you. Serve sincerely, spend wisely, and plan for the generations coming after you.
