Legendary Actor Olu Jacobs Dies at 84, Nollywood Stars React
Nollywood celebrities have mourned veteran actor Olu Jacobs, who died at 84. See tributes from Funke Akindele, Ini Edo, Mr Macaroni and others.
Nollywood stars have been paying tribute to veteran actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, following his death at the age of 84.
The actor’s death was announced by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
Shortly after the announcement, celebrities flooded Olusoji Jacobs’ Instagram post with messages mourning the veteran actor and celebrating his contribution to the Nigerian film industry.
Funke Akindele simply wrote, “May his soul rest in peace.”
Ini Edo said, “Rest well Uncle! You will forever be in our hearts.”
Williams Uchemba described Jacobs’ life as “A life well spent,” adding, “Rest Well Legend.”
Mr Macaroni wrote, “Legend, Icon and an absolute Inspiration to us all!”
Broda Shaggi prayed for the late actor, saying, “May his soul find eternal rest at the right hand of God, and may his memory live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.”
Bukky Wright reflected on Jacobs’ impact, saying he left an unforgettable legacy in the hearts of movie lovers and that his light would continue to shine through the lives he touched.
Kehinde Bankole also paid tribute, writing, “A beautiful life! A legendary legacy! A Peaceful rest. All is well.. Journey well sir.”
Ken Erics added, “May God bless his Soul. Forever in Our hearts.”
Jacobs had a career that spanned several decades and covered theatre, television and film. After training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, he worked in British television, theatre and international film productions before returning to Nigeria.
He subsequently became a familiar face in Nollywood, appearing in numerous films and earning major industry recognition. Among his honours were the Industry Merit Award at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
The veteran actor also contributed to the growth of the performing arts beyond his work on screen. Alongside his wife, Joke Silva, he was a co-founder of the Lufodo Group, which includes Lufodo Productions, Lufodo Distributions and the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts.
