Donald Trump warns Iran of “never-before-seen” military action if mines are deployed in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, amid reports of halted Gulf oil traffic.

US President Donald Trump warned Iran on Tuesday of unprecedented military action if it mines the Strait of Hormuz, following Tehran’s declaration that no oil from the Gulf would transit the vital waterway.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that while he had not been informed of any mines being deployed, any such attempt must be immediately removed.

“If for any reason mines were placed, and they are not removed forthwith, the Military consequences to Iran will be at a level never seen before,” Trump stated.

He also offered a path for de-escalation: “If, on the other hand, they remove what may have been placed, it will be a giant step in the right direction!”

Trump warned that the US could use missiles, previously employed to target drug-trafficking vessels in Latin America, to “permanently eliminate” any vessel laying mines in the Gulf, emphasizing: “They will be dealt with quickly and violently. BEWARE!”

The warning followed a CNN report, citing anonymous US intelligence sources, claiming that Iran had begun deploying mines in the strait, a route responsible for nearly one-fifth of global oil supply, where shipping has nearly stopped.

The White House later clarified that no US escort of oil tankers had taken place in the strait, correcting a now-deleted social media post from the Energy Secretary.
