The public disagreement between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and APC governors over how to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election has drawn a call from APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson Ima Niboro for both sides to stop trading words and return to grassroots mobilisation.

Speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, Niboro described the dispute as a “quarrel among siblings” and urged the political actors to focus on building support rather than continuing their exchanges in the media.

The intervention came after Wike described APC governors as “politically lazy” over their rejection of his proposed cross-party coalition to support Tinubu’s re-election.

Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum, had said APC governors would not participate in or support any political arrangement that could undermine the APC or Tinubu’s re-election bid. He said their political machinery would remain focused on APC candidates at all levels.

Wike subsequently questioned the governors’ political records, including Uzodimma’s efforts to secure support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election. He maintained that his own objective for 2027 was to mobilise support for Tinubu rather than determine the outcome of governorship or legislative contests in the states.

Niboro said political leaders should take their campaigns directly to voters and establish their influence within their respective political bases.

“When I said tone down the rhetoric, I do not mean stop working. Stop talking, go and work,” he said.

He continued: “All this shouting is not taking anybody anywhere. Go and work. Go and establish your authority on your political base.”

Niboro also called for greater engagement with voters at the grassroots.

“Get on the TV cameras. Go to the people. Go to the streets. Go to the marketplaces. Go and win the people,” he said.

He further criticised the continued public exchanges, saying, “Stop all this high-sounding grammar that they are blowing everywhere is not leading anybody anywhere. Go and work.”

According to Niboro, his message was not for Wike or the governors to abandon their political interests, but to demonstrate their influence through actual grassroots mobilisation.

“If you’re a political leader, stop talking. Go and work. That is my point,” he said.
