Peter Obi has expressed appreciation to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership, members, and supporters following the party’s national convention held in Abuja, urging a shift toward addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.

In a post-convention statement on Tuesday, Obi described the event as a successful and defining moment for Nigeria’s democracy, noting that it was held “against all odds.”

“Yesterday, we witnessed yet another defining moment in our democratic journey as the ADC convention was held successfully against all odds,” he said.

He commended ADC National Chairman David Mark for his leadership and calm direction during the process.

“I must respectfully appreciate the leadership of our party, ably led by the Chairman, Distinguished Senator David Mark, whose calm and steady guidance continues to provide direction at critical moments,” Obi stated.

He also praised the organising committee headed by Liyel Imoke for its role in ensuring the success of the convention.

“My gratitude equally goes to the convention organising committee led by H.E Liyel Imoke, whose diligence, sacrifice, and attention to detail ensured that this convention was not only held, but was successful in every sense of the word,” he added.

Obi thanked delegates, party faithful, and supporters across the country, describing them as key to sustaining democratic progress.

“To our delegates, party faithful, volunteers, and supporters across Nigeria and beyond, I thank you deeply. You have once again demonstrated that democracy thrives when the people refuse to give up on it,” he said.

He, however, warned that Nigeria’s challenges must remain the priority, citing economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and uncertainty.

“Nigeria is facing very serious challenges, economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and a general sense of uncertainty among our people,” he noted.

According to him, the convention should translate into renewed commitment to nation-building.

“The success of this convention must therefore not end as an event; it must become a renewed commitment to building a nation that works for everyone,” he said.

He concluded by calling for unity and national interest above division, stating: “We must put Nigeria first, above personal interests, above politics, and above all forms of division.”
