Army Intelligence Officer Shot Dead in Abuja as Police Arrest Three Over Jos Mob Killing

A serving Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps officer, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, has been killed by gunmen during an attack at his home in the Kurudu area of the Federal Capital Territory.

Sources said the assailants ambushed the senior officer on Monday evening shortly after he returned from work and attempted to abduct him or members of his household.

The officer reportedly resisted the attack, resulting in a struggle before the gunmen opened fire, killing him. His wife was also shot and injured, while his driver and security guard sustained gunshot wounds.

The victims were taken to hospital, while security agencies launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Colonel Ude, an indigene of Enugu State, had served in several key intelligence and counter-terrorism assignments within the Nigerian Armed Forces and was said to have been in line for promotion next year.

In a separate development, the Plateau State Police Command has arrested three persons over the alleged mob killing of Ibrahim Mbaya, a 25-year-old Jos-based fashion model widely known as “Ibee.”

Police said Mbaya, a University of Jos graduate, was allegedly attacked after being accused of stealing a mobile phone at an apartment behind the City of David area along Ring Road, Jos.

According to sources, he had attended a social event before spending the night at a friend’s residence. The next morning, he was informed that an iPhone was missing and was accused of taking it.

Eyewitnesses alleged that after returning to the residence following a phone call, Mbaya was attacked by his friend and several other young men, who allegedly beat him with sticks and other objects in an effort to force him to confess.

The assault reportedly continued for hours until he lost consciousness. A nurse later examined him and reportedly confirmed he was dead.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer Alfred Alabo said officers responded after receiving information from a Good Samaritan that an unconscious man had been brought to the Jos University Teaching Hospital.

He said doctors confirmed the victim dead on arrival, while his body was deposited in the mortuary for an autopsy.

According to the police, Rinji Fwanji, Emmanuel Newyear and Nensemka Fwanji have been arrested, while investigations into the alleged culpable homicide continue.
