The Nigerian naira has opened the new week on a relatively stable note against the US dollar, but the currency continues to trade at different levels across the official and parallel markets.

As of Monday, September 14, 2026, the dollar is trading at around ₦1,326.84 at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), according to live exchange rate data.

In the parallel market, the dollar is being bought for about ₦1,380 and sold at approximately ₦1,390. The selling rate was also around ₦1,390 at the end of last week.

Based on these figures, the gap between the NFEM rate and the parallel-market selling price stands at roughly ₦63.16 per dollar.

For those buying US dollars on the parallel market, $100 is currently valued at about ₦139,000, while $1,000 would cost roughly ₦1.39 million.

Those selling dollars, however, would receive about ₦138,000 for $100 at the prevailing parallel-market buying rate of ₦1,380.

The naira’s relative stability follows improved dollar liquidity and measures by the Central Bank of Nigeria aimed at supporting stability in the foreign exchange market. In recent NFEM trading sessions, the official rate has largely remained between ₦1,320 and ₦1,330, while parallel-market quotations have stayed near ₦1,390.

The difference in pricing between the two markets is linked to their distinct mechanisms and liquidity conditions. While the NFEM rate is established through transactions in Nigeria’s regulated foreign exchange market, parallel-market rates are driven largely by demand and supply among Bureau de Change operators and other informal dealers.

Several factors could determine the direction of the naira in the days ahead, including foreign exchange liquidity, crude oil earnings, external reserves, diaspora remittances, investor inflows and monetary policy decisions.

Attention will now turn to NFEM trading throughout the week as market participants assess whether the naira can maintain its recent stability against the dollar.
