Impeachment Plot: Olubadan, Ajimobi’s Widow, Speaker Dismiss Allegations Against Makinde
Oyo crisis deepens as Olubadan, Ajimobi’s widow and Speaker deny involvement in alleged plot to impeach Governor Makinde.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, and Florence Ajimobi have denied claims linking them to an alleged plot to impeach Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
The allegations sparked tension within the Oyo State House of Assembly, as lawmakers issued statements distancing themselves from reported meetings involving Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
The claims originated from Chief Whip Gbenga Oyekola, who alleged that Ogundoyin had been separately invited by both the Olubadan and Mrs. Ajimobi.
He further claimed the monarch offered political backing for Ogundoyin’s ambitions, including a House of Representatives ticket and funding, but that the Speaker rejected the offer.
Oyekola insisted:
“I was never invited… I cannot and will not be disloyal to my boss, Governor Seyi Makinde.”
Strong Denials
The Olubadan, through his aide, described the allegation as false:
“This is a lie… Don’t drag the Olubadan throne into dirty politics.”
Mrs. Ajimobi similarly dismissed the claims as:
“entirely false, baseless… malicious political propaganda.”
She added:
“At no time did Ajimobi… participate in any such meeting… to destabilise the state government.”
Speaker Responds
Ogundoyin denied any wrongdoing, saying no money changed hands:
“No money exchanged hands at any meeting… The rumour was fabricated to tarnish my image.”
He acknowledged being approached with inducements but said he rejected them:
“Nothing can sway my conscience or weaken my loyalty…”
He explained his visit to the Olubadan was traditional and unrelated to politics:
“purely consultative… to seek his blessings.”
