A Nigerian national is among 122 people injured after Iranian ballistic missiles were intercepted over the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to the UAE Ministry of Defence, the missile launches were part of retaliatory actions by Iran, which accused the Gulf nation of allowing the United States to use its military bases to carry out operations against Tehran.

The ministry disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that 262 ballistic missiles have been detected since the conflict began on February 28.

Of the missiles recorded, 241 were successfully intercepted, 19 fell into the sea, and two landed on UAE soil.

The statement partly read:
“Since the onset of the blatant Iranian attacks, 262 ballistic missiles have been detected. Of these, 241 were destroyed, 19 fell into the sea, and 2 struck within the state territory.

“A total of 1,475 Iranian UAVs have also been detected, with 1,385 intercepted and **90 falling within the country’s territory. Eight cruise missiles were also detected and destroyed.

“These attacks resulted in six deaths among Emirati, Pakistani, Nepalese and Bangladeshi nationals, while 122 people sustained moderate to minor injuries. The injured include nationals of the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, the Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan and Palestine.”

Authorities, however, did not break down the number of victims by nationality.

On Wednesday, the UAE defence ministry said its air defence systems were again countering fresh missile and drone threats from Iran.

UAE air defences are currently responding to incoming missile and drone threats from Iran,” the ministry said in a post on X, noting that the explosions heard across parts of the country were from interceptions carried out by the air defence systems.
