Israeli Military Reports Drone Strikes from Lebanon, Ministers Demand Retaliation
Two drones suspected to be launched by Hezbollah hit northern Israel, prompting calls from Israeli ministers for retaliatory strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs.
Two drones suspected to have been launched by Lebanon-based Hezbollah struck northern Israel on Sunday, according to the Israeli military, which said the incident caused no injuries.
The military confirmed that the aerial objects crossed into Israeli territory and impacted areas near the Israel-Lebanon border.
“Two impacts of suspicious aerial targets in Israeli territory were identified near the Israel-Lebanon border. No injuries were reported,” the military said.
Following the strikes, two members of Israel’s far-right government called for immediate retaliatory action against Hezbollah targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs, commonly known as Dahiyeh.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said the incident should trigger the implementation of Israel’s stated policy toward Hezbollah.
“The shooting at northern communities is a test of the Dahiyeh Doctrine that the prime minister declared. I call on him to implement it decisively and firmly, and to bring down buildings in Dahiyeh,” he wrote on X.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir echoed the call for a stronger military response.
“For every drone — a missile; for every violation — fire; for every UAV — Dahiyeh must tremble,” Ben Gvir posted on X.
Israeli officials have repeatedly warned that attacks by Hezbollah on communities in northern Israel could lead to strikes on Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said such a policy is supported by Washington.
