Moghalu rejects inclusion in Atiku’s 2027 policy team, says ‘I wasn’t consulted’

Professor Kingsley Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has rejected his inclusion in a policy team announced by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his 2027 presidential campaign.

Moghalu said he was taken by surprise after seeing his name on the list, explaining that he had neither been consulted nor given permission for his name to be published as part of the team.

“I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” Moghalu said in a statement shared on his Facebook page.

He categorically denied being part of Atiku’s policy team, saying he was not involved “even unofficially or in any advisory capacity.”

According to the former CBN deputy governor, he left partisan politics in Nigeria in 2022 and has since maintained a non-partisan position in the country’s political and national affairs.

“I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria,” he stated.

Moghalu explained that his professional focus is currently centred on the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET Africa), where he serves as President. He described the organisation as a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy.

He is also the CEO of Sogato Strategies, a firm focused on geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory.

While clarifying his position, Moghalu said remaining outside partisan politics does not mean he is indifferent to Nigeria’s development.

“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment. I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.
