Ola of Lagos Explains Why He Chooses Rent Over Owning a House
Ola of Lagos says he deliberately chooses to rent because paying rent keeps him focused and reminds him that he needs to keep working.
Popular Nigerian influencer and entrepreneur Waris Olayinka Akinwande, better known as Ola of Lagos, has disclosed why he prefers renting an apartment even though he has the means to purchase a house.
Ola made the disclosure during a recent appearance on the KK Show, where he said he intentionally maintains the financial pressure of paying rent because it pushes him to work harder.
The luxury influencer noted that owning a house outright could make him too comfortable, whereas having a major financial obligation such as rent reminds him to stay focused on making money.
“If I sleep in a house I bought with my own money, I’ll relax. No! Rent, pay rent make you know say you wan pay 50 million naira,” he said.
“Pay, so that you go know say you have to work. If you go dey your house wey you buy. No, it’s fine to stay in your house, that’s my own opinion, don’t let that judge your life oo.”
Despite his preference, Ola stressed that everyone should make financial decisions based on their individual circumstances.
“No, it depends on your reality,” he said.
Giving an example, he said some people could use the purchase of a car as a stepping stone to acquiring property.
“Some people now, na the car wey dem go buy, go buy them houses. Like one of my mentors online, he said his first car bought him houses.
“Yeah, so look at your current situation.”
