Mohbad’s Paternity Dispute: Court-Supervised DNA Test Conducted on Liam, Singer’s Remains
Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, secures a court-supervised DNA test involving Liam and the late singer’s remains. Results are still awaited.
The long-running controversy over the paternity of Liam, son of late singer Mohbad, has entered another stage after DNA samples were obtained from the child and the deceased musician’s remains in a court-supervised exercise.
The procedure took place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following a request by the singer’s wife, Omowunmi Aloba, for a court-approved DNA examination to establish whether Liam is Mohbad’s biological son.
The court granted her application and designated a welfare officer to supervise the exercise, with October 31 fixed as the date for sample collection.
The dispute had earlier been brought into the spotlight by Mohbad’s father, Mr Joseph Aloba, who equally demanded a DNA test to verify Liam’s biological relationship with the late musician. However, proceedings connected to his application had faced delays.
Security operatives were present to ensure the exercise proceeded without disruption. Among those who attended were Mohbad’s mother, Mrs Abosede; his younger brother, Adura; and Omowunmi, his wife.
Reports indicated that emotions ran high during the identification of the singer’s remains as part of the DNA collection process.
The collection was carried out at Mainland General Hospital, also known as the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), in Yaba, where samples were obtained from Mohbad’s remains.
They were later conveyed to the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, where samples were also taken from Liam for forensic testing.
Addressing journalists after the exercise, Barrister Kabiru, counsel to Omowunmi, said the date for the release of the DNA findings had yet to be determined.
According to him, the parties involved would receive official notification through the court when the results were ready.
He further applauded the court and the Nigeria Police Force for their professionalism and cooperation throughout the exercise.
The development marks another significant step in the paternity controversy that has remained in the public domain since Mohbad died in September 2023.
The forensic findings are expected to provide scientific clarification and assist the court in reaching a decision on Liam’s paternity.
