The Peter Obi Media Office (POMR) has warned state governors against alleged attempts to manipulate the electoral process ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election, declaring that Nigerians would determine the best political choice at the ballot box.

The office, which represents Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi, insisted that any election that fails to guarantee free, fair and transparent voting would not be accepted by Nigerians.

In a Tuesday statement signed by its spokesperson, Idris Zekeri, the media office said it had become aware of alleged secret moves by governors to undermine democracy.

It argued that despite what it described as fraudulent electoral efforts, the governors were presenting an unimpressive political offering to voters, who would ultimately select the best candidate in the political marketplace.

POMR also criticised what it called the growing desperation of governors, alleging that rather than highlighting their achievements and records in public service, they were increasingly relying on electoral manipulation and mechanisms for rigging.

The office stressed that leadership should be earned through service and not retained through intimidation, deceit or interference with democratic institutions.

It further stated that Nigerians were no longer willing to tolerate leaders who had failed to meet their expectations, describing the 2027 polls as a crucial opportunity for citizens to reclaim the country through their votes.

According to the office, no amount of electoral fraud or political manoeuvring could permanently suppress the will of the electorate.

POMR also portrayed Obi as the preferred candidate of Nigerians, describing him as a leader with competence, capacity, character, compassion and commitment, qualities it said could restore Nigeria’s dignity, prosperity and hope.

The statement said:

“The Peter Obi Media Office has become aware of a series of covert efforts by state governors to undermine the democratic process. It once again cautions that any process that falls short of free, fair, and transparent elections will fail, as Nigerians will resist it.

“The Media Office reminds the governors that, regardless of their fraudulent efforts, they are presenting a poor product, and Nigerians will select the best option available in the market.

“We therefore condemn the increasing desperation of these governors, who, instead of presenting their records of service, performance, and achievements, are turning to electoral manipulation and safeguards for rigging.

“Leadership is a privilege earned through service; it is not a mandate to retain power through deceit, intimidation, or interference with the democratic process.

“Nigerians have had enough and remain determined to reject undeserving leaders who have failed them. The 2027 election will be a defining moment for our nation. Nigerians are resolved to reclaim their country through the power of their votes.

“Let it be known that no degree of rigging, intimidation, or political manoeuvring can permanently silence the will of the people.

“Peter Obi continues to be the people’s preferred choice because he embodies the strongest offering in the political arena: a leader defined by competence, capacity, character, compassion, and commitment, capable of raising Nigeria from its current condition and restoring its dignity, prosperity, and hope.

“The mandate rests with the people. Nigeria must function again, and it will be OK.”
