Soludo Reveals Peter Obi’s Wife Is Godmother to His Child, Says Families Remain Close

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has disclosed that the wife of former Anambra governor Peter Obi is the godmother of one of his children, reaffirming the cordial relationship between their families despite their political differences.

Soludo equally revealed that his wife, Nonye, serves as the confirmation godmother to Obi’s daughter, clarifying the family connection that attracted public attention in September.

Speaking in an interview with BBC News Igbo on Monday, the governor described Obi as a personal friend and stressed that their families maintained a good relationship despite their political disagreements.

“Peter Obi and I are good friends. Our two families are on good terms. His wife was the godmother of my child at baptism, and my wife was the godmother of his child at confirmation,” he stated.

The governor attributed their differences to politics, particularly their contrasting positions on who should lead Anambra State.

He maintained that Obi’s support for another candidate during the governorship contest had not affected their friendship, noting that he bore no resentment over the disagreement.

“I have a different vision of who should be governor of Anambra State. I am contesting, and he supported whoever he felt should be governor. I prevailed by the grace of God, and I don’t hold it against him,” Soludo said.
