Nigeria Gets Three Nominations at 2026 CAF Women’s Awards as Super Falcons Make Shortlist
Super Falcons, Christiana Uzoma, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei have been nominated for the 2026 CAF Women’s Awards.
Nigeria has been recognised in three categories at the 2026 CAF Women’s Awards, following the announcement of nominees on Tuesday, with Edo Queens goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma, forward Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei and the Super Falcons earning nominations.
Uzoma is among the contenders for the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year prize, following her performances for Edo Queens. The Nigerian will face Chloe N’Gazi, Michaely Bihina, Cynthia Konlan, Mercy Sikelo, Fatoumata Karantao, Khadija Er-Rmichi, Adji Ndiaye, Kaylin Swart and Hazel Nali.
Nigeria also has two representatives in the Women’s Young Player of the Year category, with Robo Queens and Flamingos forward Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Benfica and Falconets attacker Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei both nominated.
They will compete against Romaine Gandonou, Maëva Nyanidjo, Grace-Ruth Sery, N’Sira Ouédraogo, Rose Kadzere, Kautar Azraf, Adji Ndiaye and Winfrida Gerald.
The Super Falcons secured a nomination for Women’s National Team of the Year, notwithstanding their failure to clinch the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations trophy.
The Nigerian side will contend for the award against WAFCON champions Cameroon, as well as Algeria, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Malawi, Mali, Morocco and South Africa.
Despite the national team’s recognition, Nigeria did not have any player nominated for the Women’s Player of the Year category.
The 2026 CAF Awards winners will be announced at a ceremony scheduled to hold in Lagos on Monday, December 7.
