Funke Akindele, Facebook Team Up to Take Nigerian Film Stories to Global Audiences
Funke Akindele teams up with Facebook to showcase Nigerian cinema at The Four premieres in London and Lagos, highlighting Nollywood creators and culture.
Facebook has joined forces with popular Nollywood filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele to promote Nigerian culture and storytelling through the London and Lagos premieres of her new movie, The Four.
The partnership will feature the film’s international premiere in London and its homecoming event in Lagos, creating opportunities for creators, celebrities and fans to connect and celebrate Nigerian filmmaking.
Oluwasola Obagbemi, Meta’s Head of Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, said the initiative reflects Facebook’s role in helping creators engage their audiences and develop communities based on shared interests.
“Facebook has always been about connecting people, and our partnership with Funke Akindele brings that to life through film,” Obagbemi stated.
He noted that the platform provides creators with opportunities to expand their reach beyond national borders, develop stronger connections with fans and generate income from original material.
“Through our partnership around The Four premieres in London and Lagos, we’re celebrating the creators shaping culture, and helping more creators who share original and engaging content on Facebook to succeed,” he said.
Akindele also welcomed the partnership, highlighting the importance of sharing African cinema with audiences worldwide.
“African cinema has always had beautiful stories for the world to enjoy, and it’s exciting to have Facebook as a partner in bringing these stories to even more audiences globally,” she said.
Beyond the film premieres, the initiative will showcase Nigerian creators living in the country and abroad. A creator-led space at both events will produce social media content highlighting how Facebook helps creators reach younger viewers and share Nigerian culture and narratives with international audiences.
The filmmaker made the partnership public through a post on her Facebook page.
Facebook also encouraged audiences to follow the Meta Africa, officialfunkeAkindele, Funke Akindele and Fanntv pages on the platform to access exclusive behind-the-scenes content from the premiere events.
The company said the collaboration underscores Nollywood’s international appeal and the role of creators and online communities in taking Nigerian storytelling to a wider audience.
