APC Defies Court Ruling, Insists Uzodimma Is Imo West Candidate
APC reacts to the Federal High Court judgment recognising Rochas Okorocha as the Imo West primary winner, maintaining that Hope Uzodimma remains its candidate.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has insisted that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains its candidate for Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 elections, despite a Federal High Court ruling declaring former governor Rochas Okorocha the winner of the party’s senatorial primary.
The court, which sat in Abuja on Thursday, declared Okorocha the winner of the primary and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise him as the APC candidate for Imo West.
Despite the judgment, the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, maintained that Uzodimma secured the party’s ticket with the support of the majority of members.
Jones said the APC would examine the court’s decision through its legal department before determining the appropriate response.
“The party wishes to state without any confusion that His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, remains the candidate of our party for Imo West Senatorial District, having won the primaries of our great party with the overwhelming support of the majority of our party members,” the statement said.
“The party’s legal department shall study the outcome of a legal intervention in this matter and act accordingly,” it added.
The party also appealed to its members and supporters not to be distracted by the legal dispute, urging them to remain committed to the APC’s electoral ambitions across Imo State.
“We urge our teeming party members and supporters of our great party to remain focused and undistracted and remain committed to working assiduously for the victory of our party across all constituencies in the state,” Jones said.
The conflicting positions highlight the continuing legal battle between Uzodimma and Okorocha over the APC’s Imo West senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
