The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has invalidated Governor Hope Uzodinma’s candidacy for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Imo West Senatorial District election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Obiora Egwuatu held that the evidence before the court established that Uzodinma was not the rightful winner of the APC primary conducted in the senatorial district on May 18, which was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the court, former Imo State governor Senator Rochas Okorocha polled the highest number of votes in the primary election and was therefore entitled to the party’s nomination.

The judge consequently ordered INEC to recognise Okorocha as the legitimate APC candidate and publish his name ahead of the senatorial election.

In addition, the court barred Uzodinma from presenting himself as the APC candidate for the Imo West seat.

The decision represents a significant development in the APC’s preparations for the January 16, 2027, senatorial election, with Okorocha emerging as the candidate recognised by the court.
