Ivan Toney Faces June 2028 Trial Over Alleged London Nightclub Assault
England striker Ivan Toney has pleaded not guilty to an alleged assault on Saber Da Silva at a London nightclub, with trial set for June 12, 2028.
England international Ivan Toney will face trial on June 12, 2028, over an alleged assault at a nightclub in central London, a court announced on Thursday.
Toney, 30, who currently plays for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, is accused of assaulting Saber Da Silva at a nightclub in the Soho district last December.
Appearing at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday, the former Brentford striker pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Judge Christopher Hehir set a provisional trial date of June 12, 2028, during a hearing that lasted approximately five minutes. He also expressed regret over the significant delay before the case could be heard.
“That’s a long way in advance and I’m sorry about that,” the judge said. “As you may know, the crown courts are operating under a great deal of pressure. We have got a massive backlog of work for various reasons.”
Toney was subsequently granted unconditional bail.
Details presented at an earlier hearing indicated that the alleged incident took place at the 100 Wardour Street nightclub following a confrontation between Toney and Da Silva.
According to the account heard in court, the pair “squared up to each other” before Toney allegedly “lunged forward and headbutted the complainant, followed by a few punches”.
The England forward has earned 10 international caps and scored one goal for his country. He was included in England’s 2026 World Cup squad but has not been selected for the latest Nations League squad.
Toney denies the charge and is expected to stand trial in June 2028 as the legal proceedings continue.
