Bala Mohammed Signs Law Establishing Mining Institute in Alkaleri, Bauchi
Bauchi State establishes the Alkaleri Mining Institute to train youths in mining, geology and mineral processing while creating employment opportunities.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has signed into law legislation establishing the Mining Institute Alkaleri, Bauchi State (MIABAS), in a move aimed at strengthening mining education, building technical capacity and tackling illegal mining.
The law followed its passage by the Bauchi State House of Assembly, clearing the way for the establishment of a specialised institution dedicated to training and skills development in the mining sector.
Fatima AbdulKarim, Information Officer of the Ministry of Natural Resources Development, announced the development in a statement, revealing that the governor had approved a temporary site for the institute.
The facility, located at the Kaura Mineral Processing and Buying Centre in Gwaram village, Alkaleri Local Government Area, will serve as the institute’s temporary base to enable its operations to begin.
AbdulKarim said Mohammed had also directed the relocation of the mineral processing and buying centre to Toro Local Government Area.
She explained that the institute was established to strengthen local expertise, provide young people with practical skills and increase the economic benefits Bauchi State derives from its solid mineral deposits.
According to the statement, MIABAS will offer specialised training in mining, mineral processing, geology and other related disciplines.
The institution is expected to create opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship while encouraging greater participation by local residents in the solid minerals value chain.
The state government said the initiative reflects its commitment to using mineral resources to promote sustainable economic development and broaden opportunities for the people of Bauchi.
Further information on the institute’s administrative arrangements, academic programmes and admission procedures will be communicated through official channels, the statement added.
