APM Challenges Tinubu to Reveal Real Destination, Urges President to Tackle Hardship
The Allied People’s Movement questions Tinubu’s trip, urges him to address Nigeria’s economic hardship and makes claims about the 2027 presidential election.
The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has challenged President Bola Tinubu to tell Nigerians his actual destination, insisting that he should stay in the country to pray for Nigeria and address the hardship faced by citizens.
The opposition party criticised the President’s planned trip, arguing that Nigeria’s worsening challenges should take priority over travelling abroad. It also questioned whether the announced lesser Hajj pilgrimage was being used to conceal other activities.
APM National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf made the position known in a statement, warning against using the religious journey to divert attention from the country’s pressing problems.
“Lesser Hajj involves prayer and supplications, but not an opportunity to do the unusual or as a cover to do other things,” Yusuf said.
He accused the Tinubu administration of worsening the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians and argued that the President should remain at home to find solutions.
“You cannot pray for the problems you have inflicted on ordinary Nigerians, rather than staying here to resolve the heavily burdened, self-contrived problems of the citizens,” he said.
Yusuf further invoked the familiar ‘Andrew, check out’ expression to urge Tinubu not to leave Nigeria.
“Let Mr President not behave like ‘Andrew’ of those days, saying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not check out,” he said.
APM Says Tinubu Could Struggle in 2027 Election
The party also turned its attention to the 2027 presidential election, with Yusuf claiming Tinubu could face difficulties securing the required 25 per cent of votes in 12 selected states.
He expressed confidence that APM presidential candidate Seyi Makinde would defeat the incumbent President in the forthcoming contest.
Yusuf described Makinde as a workaholic and energetic politician capable of challenging Tinubu’s political influence in the South-West and across southern Nigeria.
The APM spokesman’s remarks come amid the party’s criticism of the President’s planned journey and its predictions about the political contest ahead of the 2027 general election.
