Polls Open in US Midterms as Democrats Target Congress Amid Trump Backlash

Americans begin voting in crucial midterm elections as Democrats target Congress amid voter dissatisfaction with Trump, rising energy costs and the Iran war.

Polling stations opened across the eastern United States on Tuesday as voters began casting ballots in midterm elections that could deliver a major political setback to President Donald Trump.

Democrats are seeking to wrest control of Congress, a move that could substantially limit Trump’s executive powers and alter the political balance in Washington.

Multiple opinion polls suggest Democrats are favoured to capture the House of Representatives, while the party also has a chance of gaining control of the Senate.

The elections are taking place against a backdrop of mounting public anger over Trump’s deeply unpopular presidency, escalating energy costs and the prolonged war with Iran.
