FA Rejects Palace Appeal as Mateta Faces Three-Game Suspension
Jean-Philippe Mateta faces a three-game suspension after Crystal Palace failed to overturn his red card following their 2-0 loss to Tottenham.
Crystal Palace will be without Jean-Philippe Mateta for their next three matches after an appeal against his dismissal in the 2-0 loss to Tottenham on Saturday was unsuccessful.
Mateta, 29, received his marching orders in the 13th minute of the encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a late challenge on Tottenham captain Micky van de Ven.
The French striker was initially booked by referee Michael Oliver, but following a VAR intervention, the yellow card was upgraded to a straight red.
As a result, Mateta is set to miss Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Liverpool at Selhurst Park, alongside Palace’s upcoming matches against Coventry and Hull later this month.
In a statement, the Football Association confirmed: “An independent regulatory commission has dismissed claims of both wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment in relation to Jean-Philippe Mateta.”
