2027: Soludo Backs Tinubu, Targets Over 50% of Anambra Votes for APC President
Governor Soludo declares APGA’s support for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, pledging to secure over 50 per cent of Anambra’s votes.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has declared his intention to deliver more than half of the state’s votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The governor announced the commitment at the inauguration of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) 2027 campaign at Ekwueme Square in Awka, where he formally declared the party’s support for Tinubu’s re-election.
Soludo explained that APGA would not present a presidential candidate in the forthcoming election, making the APC flagbearer its preferred choice.
“Today, we adopt the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our candidate,” he said.
According to the governor, Tinubu’s relationship with the Igbo people and his perceived concern for Anambra State were among the reasons behind the party’s decision.
He pointed to Tinubu’s appointments of several Anambra indigenes to strategic government positions in Lagos State when he was governor as evidence of his longstanding relationship with the people.
Soludo further recalled that APGA had adopted presidential candidates from the party controlling the Federal Government during previous election cycles, saying its backing of Tinubu followed the same political pattern.
The governor also highlighted the state’s poor voting performance for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, noting that he received fewer than 5,000 votes in Anambra.
He, however, argued that the President had continued to show concern for the state and the South-East despite the low electoral support he received in 2023.
Soludo consequently urged Anambra residents to rally behind Tinubu in the 2027 polls, saying a stronger electoral mandate would improve the state’s chances of negotiating with the Federal Government for development projects and opportunities.
“We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the centre and negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra State”, he declared.
