Africa Magic honours Olu Jacobs with documentary on his life and career
A new Africa Magic documentary will celebrate Olu Jacobs’ decades-long career in Nigerian theatre, television and film, featuring reflections from industry figures.
Africa Magic Showcase will broadcast a special documentary celebrating the life and enduring legacy of veteran Nigerian actor Sir Olu Jacobs, who died on September 16, 2026.
The documentary, titled “Doyen of Nollywood: Celebrating Olu Jacobs,” honours the career of one of Nigeria’s most respected figures in the creative industry.
Filmmaker Femi Odugbemi directed the documentary, while Zuri 24 Media produced it. The production traces Jacobs’ journey through theatre, television and film and examines his contribution to the development of Nigeria’s entertainment industry over several decades.
Jacobs was widely regarded as one of the most influential actors of his generation. Over the course of his career, he portrayed a wide range of characters on stage and screen, earning acclaim for his versatility, depth and commitment to acting.
His influence extended beyond his performances, as he also contributed to the growth of the Nigerian acting industry and inspired younger generations of performers.
The documentary features reflections from people who knew and worked with Jacobs, providing personal accounts of his career and the impact he made on the industry.
Among those featured are Joke Silva, Afolabi Adesanya, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Patience Ozokwor, Kate Henshaw and Jahman Anikulapo.
Their recollections highlight not only Jacobs’ memorable performances but also the discipline, professionalism and influence that became hallmarks of his career.
“Doyen of Nollywood: Celebrating Olu Jacobs” will premiere on Africa Magic Showcase on Friday, September 25, at 6:35 pm.
The documentary will also be rebroadcast on Saturday, September 26, at 10:30 pm; Monday, September 28, at 4:30 pm; and Wednesday, September 30, at 2:35 pm.
The special broadcasts will allow audiences across Africa Magic to revisit the remarkable career of one of Nollywood’s most celebrated veterans and remember his lasting contribution to Nigerian theatre, television and film.
