Francis-Xavier Sosu collapses during speech at Ghana event
Madina MP Francis-Xavier Sosu appeared to lose consciousness while addressing an audience at GIMPA before being taken for medical attention.
Ghanaian Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, collapsed while addressing an audience on Thursday, leading people at the event to quickly come to his aid.
Sosu was speaking at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration when he appeared to suddenly lose consciousness and fell on stage.
Citi Newsroom reported that the lawmaker had been sharing his personal experiences and speaking about leadership and his dedication to public service before the incident.
Shortly before his collapse, Sosu told those gathered: “I respectfully submit that if you want to be a good leader, let service be your hallmark,” according to Citi Newsroom.
He then paused before appearing to collapse.
Those present immediately rushed towards him. A video published by CitiTV and reported by ModernGhana showed two individuals assisting Sosu after he fell.
The lawmaker appeared to regain consciousness and seemed ready to resume his speech, but he reportedly began slumping again shortly afterwards, Citi Newsroom said.
Sosu was eventually assisted off the stage and taken for medical attention.
The footage showed several people surrounding the lawmaker after the incident, with the podium left unattended.
