Senator Nenadi Usman, Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, has launched the party’s ward congresses nationwide, urging stronger inclusion of women in leadership roles.

She made the call during the exercise in her Jere South Ward, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where she also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what she described as its professionalism.

According to a statement signed by her Senior Special Adviser (Media), Ken Asogwa, and released in Abuja on Thursday, Usman said the congresses marked the beginning of grassroots party restructuring.

She said, “This marks the commencement of our congresses at the ward level. What you have seen here are Jere North and Jere South conducting their congresses together, as is customary. New executives have been duly elected.

“Reports from across the federation indicate that the exercise was largely peaceful and well-organised, with INEC playing a commendable role through timely monitoring.”

The congresses in Jere North and Jere South produced new ward executives who will manage party affairs at the grassroots level.

Usman noted that the process would continue with local government and state congresses, leading up to a national convention in Umuahia, Abia State.

She stressed the party’s commitment to inclusivity, saying: “We are committed to gender balance and increased female participation in leadership, particularly in party administration.”

She also called for sustained peace and orderliness throughout all stages of the congress process.

Across the country, ward congresses were held in 8,809 wards, with further congresses scheduled for April 24 (local government), April 25 (state), and April 28, 2026, for the national convention.
