The arrest of Pastor Harrison Charles comes amid Anambra State’s crackdown on suspected fake pastors, with authorities seeking more information from the public.

Authorities in Anambra State have launched an investigation into Pastor Harrison Charles of Day Spring Assembly, Awada, Onitsha, following allegations that he persuaded several married women to leave their husbands and become his wives.

The allegations gained widespread attention on social media, with individuals claiming to be victims and family members accusing the pastor of controversial activities, including allegedly taking other men’s wives and encouraging wife-swapping among church members.

The arrest comes as the Anambra State Government intensifies efforts against suspected fake pastors and religious fraudsters across the state.

Dr. Ejimofor Opara, media aide to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, confirmed in a Facebook post that the cleric was arrested by Agunechemba operatives and subsequently handed over to the police.

He said the police and the state government have commenced a joint investigation into the allegations.

“Pastor Harrison Charles, owner of Day Spring Assembly in Awada, Onitsha, was arrested by operatives of Agunechemba following a viral video containing several allegations against him,” Opara said.

According to him, investigators made additional discoveries during the arrest.

“During his arrest, about eleven babies were found in his home. He claimed to be the father of these eleven babies and that they are from eleven of his wives.”

Opara also stated that the pastor allegedly told investigators that he could not determine the number of wives he had married or the total number of children he had fathered.

“He also claimed that he does not know the number of wives he has married or the total number of children he has.”

The state government has encouraged members of the public with useful information about the case to come forward as investigations continue.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, has also appealed for testimonies and additional evidence that may assist the ongoing probe.
