‘Sick Conspiracy’ Against AI: Trump Rejects Calls to Slow Technology

WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has intensified his defence of artificial intelligence, accusing critics of the technology of being part of a “sick conspiracy” and rejecting demands for stricter regulation.

Trump said the United States must remain ahead in the global AI race, particularly against China, and criticised Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei after he called for companies to slow down AI development.

“The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” Trump declared Monday in a post on Truth Social.

His comments came after a week in which Trump repeatedly dismissed warnings from technology executives about AI’s potential dangers. The president has maintained that excessive US regulation could allow China to gain an advantage in the rapidly developing technology sector.

“There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China,” Trump wrote.

“WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so. Conspiracy Theorists, Treasonists, Traitors, and Leakers, BEWARE!”

Trump subsequently criticised Amodei, whose call on Saturday for companies to slow AI development was supported by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk.

“The Trump Administration has stopped AI ‘people’ from doing bad, or potentially bad, ‘things,’ like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a ‘perfect little angel’,” Trump said.

The president had faced repeated questions about AI’s risks during his weekend visit to Ireland, but he remained opposed to calls for regulation.

On Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said he had personally heard concerns about AI from people in the technology industry during the previous week.

When asked whether he was minimising those concerns, Trump said: “No we are not downplaying but you know it’s going to be more good than bad by a lot.”
