President Bola Tinubu has announced a series of leadership changes across major education institutions, including NECO, NBTE, the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam, and the National Library of Nigeria.

Among the appointments, Modupe Adelabu was named Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examination Council (NECO), with Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi retained as registrar.

Tinubu also appointed Engr. Dr Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, while renewing Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Director/Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria.

For the NBTE, Professor Babatunde Salako was appointed Chairman, while Prof. Idris M. Bugaje had earlier been reappointed as Executive Secretary for a final five-year term.

Prof. Adelabu, a retired Professor of Educational Administration at Obafemi Awolowo University, previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and chaired NBTE between 2018 and 2021.

Prof. Salako, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (2016–2024), is widely recognised for reforms that strengthened research governance and international collaboration.

Dr Bongfa Binfa, who holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, replaces the pioneer Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, following completion of a structured selection process advertised in 2025.

He previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and lectured at Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

Prof. Anunobi’s tenure renewal follows reforms aimed at modernising the National Library, including digital knowledge systems and national repository projects.

She has also driven efforts to complete the National Library Headquarters and relocate heritage collections to Abuja.

A statement from the presidency said, “The President expects that the renewal of her tenure would ensure continuity in the implementation of ongoing reforms, completion of the National Library Headquarters project, and execution of the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan of the institution.”
