Trump Extends Iran Ceasefire but Keeps Naval Blockade as Diplomacy Stalls

Trump extends Iran truce for negotiations but orders continued naval blockade, keeping military forces on standby.

Donald Trump has extended the ceasefire with Iran, giving more time for diplomatic negotiations while maintaining military pressure through a continued US naval blockade.

In a statement posted on social media, Trump said he would “extend the Ceasefire” until Iran submits a proposal to end hostilities, but stressed that he had “directed our Military to continue the Blockade.”

The decision came just hours before the ceasefire was expected to lapse.

The White House also confirmed that Vice President JD Vance would not travel to Islamabad for a planned second round of peace talks, signalling further uncertainty in the diplomatic process.

Trump attributed the stalled negotiations to internal divisions within Iran and said Pakistan’s leadership had personally requested an extension of the truce.

“Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured… upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran…”

He added that while the ceasefire would be extended, the US blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz would remain in force. American forces, he said, would “in all other respects, remain ready and able.”

The ceasefire will continue, Trump stated, “until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other.”

The move highlights a tense balance between continued military pressure and a fragile diplomatic effort to prevent renewed escalation.
