A UK court has sentenced Nigerian national Obinwa Obichukwu to two years in prison after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at London’s Euston station.

The 45-year-old, who lives on Armstrong Close in Borehamwood, was convicted on two counts of sexual assault after a trial at Inner London Crown Court.

According to evidence presented in court, the incident occurred on August 20, 2023, when Obichukwu approached the victim as she walked towards Euston station and struck up a conversation by asking about the music she was listening to.

He then placed his arm around her shoulder, invited her back to his home and repeatedly told her he loved her while holding her hand as they walked along Euston Road.

Prosecutors told the court that Obichukwu later blocked the woman’s path at the station entrance and sexually assaulted her.

Although the victim attempted to leave by heading towards the Underground platforms, he followed her and carried out a second sexual assault near the ticket barriers before she managed to break free and escape.

The woman reported the incident to the British Transport Police, whose officers reviewed CCTV footage before the Crown Prosecution Service authorised criminal charges.

Obichukwu denied wrongdoing and claimed the interaction had been consensual, but a jury found him guilty in January.

He was sentenced on July 21 to two years in prison. In addition, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order lasting 10 years and ordered that he remain on the sex offenders register for the same period.

Detective Constable Daniel Burke of the British Transport Police said the offender deliberately targeted a lone woman at a busy London railway station and welcomed the jury’s verdict.

He said tackling violence against women and girls remains a key policing priority and urged members of the public to report such incidents on the rail network by texting 61016.
