Atletico Madrid endured a 3-0 defeat to FC Barcelona in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Tuesday but progressed to the final 4-3 on aggregate.

Barcelona attempted to overturn a heavy 4-0 first-leg loss, with Marc Bernal scoring twice and Raphinha adding a penalty as they chased a dramatic comeback at Camp Nou.

Despite relentless pressure, Diego Simeone’s side held out to secure their first appearance in the final since 2013.

They will face either Real Sociedad or Athletic Bilbao in the Seville showpiece on April 18.

“We knew it would be a tricky game, to come back from 4-0 down is not easy. But I’m proud of the team, we gave everything,” Raphinha said.

“We are disappointed because we wanted to be in the final, and I think we deserved it from the game we played, but we have to respect Atletico too, a great team and they defended what they had and did well.”

Goalkeeper Juan Musso highlighted Atletico’s resilience after weathering a late onslaught.

“We are dreaming of winning the cup. Maybe it wasn’t our best game, we were better in the first leg,” Musso said.

“We showed what we were made of in the final 15 minutes… the team suffered through it.”

Barcelona threw on defender Ronald Araujo as an emergency striker in the dying moments, but Atletico resisted the surge to clinch their spot in the final.
