The U.S. Embassy in Abuja has cautioned U.S. citizens in Nigeria about possible protests in Abuja on March 4, 2026, linked to the ongoing Iran-related conflict.

According to a statement issued Wednesday, the embassy highlighted a “high potential” for demonstrations in the capital and referenced past incidents that turned violent.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs U.S. citizens that there is a high potential for protests in Abuja today, March 4, 2026, due to the current conflict with Iran,” the statement said.

It added that previous protests had led to “violent clashes between the group and Nigerian security forces.”

The embassy advised Americans in the Federal Capital Territory to stay inside their homes throughout the day.

“The Embassy strongly recommends that all U.S. citizens in Abuja remain in their residences on Wednesday, March 4,” it stated.

U.S. nationals were also urged to avoid areas where protests may occur and to be cautious in crowded places. The advisory recommended that citizens “monitor local media for updates,” stay alert, and keep a low public profile.

Further guidance included reviewing emergency preparedness plans, keeping phones charged, carrying proper identification, and staying vigilant in public areas such as malls, cinemas, and religious centres.

The embassy also encouraged people to identify emergency exits in buildings and to vary travel times and routes to reduce risk.

While the security alert remains in effect, the embassy confirmed that its consular operations continue.
