Billionaire’s Son Raheem Okoya Announces Exit From Music, Reveals Why

Nigerian singer Sir Raheem, whose real name is Raheem Okoya, has announced his decision to quit releasing new music.

The 23-year-old, who is the son of billionaire industrialist Razaq Okoya, disclosed his decision in an Instagram post on Wednesday, citing the difficulty of balancing his music career with his growing responsibilities.

Raheem said his journey into music began casually, with music serving as a way for him and his friends to bond before eventually developing into a professional career.

He described the experience as memorable, highlighting performances, major moments and recognition from artistes he had admired.

“Over the past couple of years, my musical journey has truly been a magical one; we’ve shut down the internet again and again, performed at the craziest live shows, lived through nights I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. I never imagined I’d one day be recognised by the very artists I grew up admiring,” he said.

The singer thanked his fans and industry colleagues for their support but explained that his other commitments had made it increasingly difficult to maintain the level of dedication he expects from himself.

“To you, I owe that, and I’m grateful beyond words. My career began simply; music was a hobby I made with my boys to bond and connect before it was anything else.

“Over the past year, holding that alongside my other commitments has grown harder. I’ve always believed in giving everything my best, and I no longer feel I can give this craft the effort, patience, and dedication it truly deserves.

“So I owe it to my true fans, and to my colleagues in this industry, a professional exit. I have decided to stop putting out new music.”

Despite announcing his exit from releasing new music, Raheem said his relationship with music would continue.

He said music remains therapeutic for him and hinted that an album or other previously recorded material could eventually be made public.

“The best of me is yet to come. Music still remains therapeutic for me. With time, maybe the album finds its way into the world somehow after all. This past year, we’ve been locked in, and I believe I’m sitting on the best material of my career; it will be a shame to never share it.”

Away from music, Raheem is the executive director of Eleganza Industrial City Limited, owned by his father.

He had earlier disclosed that he began learning from his father and shadowing him at work at the age of 13, as part of preparations for his future responsibilities in the family business.

Raheem’s announcement therefore signals a new phase in his career, with the young entrepreneur and artiste turning his attention towards business, other professional commitments and creative ventures.
