Poco Lee Remanded in UK, Set for September Plea Hearing — Nigerians in UK Leader
Poco Lee is set to appear before a London court in September over an alleged assault offence, according to Nigerians in UK leader Benjamin Kuti.
Nigerian dancer Iweh Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, is reportedly being held on remand in the United Kingdom following an alleged assault offence.
Poco Lee is expected to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court in London during the second week of September for a plea hearing, according to Benjamin Kuti, also known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of the community of Nigerians in the UK.
Kuti confirmed the development in a post on X, saying the entertainer remains in custody pending the next stage of the legal proceedings.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” he said.
He further disclosed that he intends to be present at the proceedings as part of his efforts to support members of the Nigerian community in the UK.
“I will also be attending the court proceedings as part of my support for the Nigerian community in the UK, to ensure that our fellow Nigerian receives the appropriate support during this difficult period of his life.
“Supporting members of our community in situations like this is something I do regularly, including visiting some of our community members who are currently in prison. It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
Speculation about Poco Lee’s alleged detention in Britain surfaced on social media on August 19. However, details about the alleged assault and the circumstances leading to his remand have remained limited.
The dancer is well known in Nigeria and has gained a large following through his dance performances, entertainment engagements and social media presence.
His September court appearance is expected to shed more light on the allegation and determine the next stage of the case.
Until the matter is determined by the court, the allegation against Poco Lee remains unproven and he is presumed innocent.
