No fewer than eight persons have been killed following a terrorist attack on Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State on Thursday night.

The attack, which occurred around 11 p.m., saw gunmen invade the community and shoot sporadically for close to an hour. Reports indicate that the majority of the victims were members of the same family, while at least three others sustained injuries and some residents are still missing.

Among those killed are Elder Iliya Mangut Dakus, Luck Titus Dakus, Habila Istifanu Dakus, Hassan Istifanus Dakus, Mrs. Hassan Moses Dakus, Biggie Lucky Dakus, Sunday Gideon Dakus, and Innocent Barnabas Makwin.

According to Kefas Mallai, Chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, the incident has left the community in fear and anger.

“The community is very close to Bokkos town. The attack lasted for several hours with no visible security presence to repel the attackers,” he said.

Mallai further alleged that security operatives failed to respond despite their proximity, adding that residents are considering protests over the situation.

Youth leader Christopher Luka also confirmed the attack, describing it as “a sad and devastating assault.”

“The gunmen came around 11pm and started shooting sporadically. They targeted one family mostly. We have eight confirmed dead, some seriously injured, and others still unaccounted for,” he stated.

Attempts to get a response from Alfred Alabo, spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, were unsuccessful at the time of filing.
