Davido Says He’s Reconsidering Political Ambitions Over Risks to Career Legacy

Nigerian singer Davido says his interest in politics has faded, as he reflects on protecting his brand and the realities of the political space.

Afrobeats star Davido has said he is no longer as interested in entering politics as he once was, pointing to the challenges faced by celebrities who have made the switch.

Speaking during a Twitch livestream with Davrel, the music star reflected on his earlier plans to venture into politics, noting that his perspective has evolved over time.

He said his decision is influenced by the mixed outcomes seen among entertainers who attempted political careers without significant success.

“Before, I wanted to go into politics but honestly, now, I see it two ways. All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built, it is tricky because the way people look at things; the superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful,” he explained.

Davido noted that his established legacy in music and the nature of the political environment make the move less appealing.

“I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business,” he said.
