Islamic cleric Abubakar Gumi has alleged that the Nigerian government has detailed knowledge of terrorists operating in the country, including their identities and locations.

Speaking in a recent interview with DRTV, which gained attention on Tuesday, the Kaduna-based scholar addressed accusations that he maintains close ties with bandits and terrorists and frequently speaks on their behalf.

Gumi rejected the claims, explaining that his interactions with the armed groups are carried out alongside security agencies.

“The government knows every terrorist by name and by location. I don’t go alone to negotiate — I go with the police and other security agencies,” he said.

According to him, some of the engagements involved visits to traditional rulers and trips into forests suspected to be bandits’ hideouts.

“I would go to the Emirs. In fact, when we went to one forest, I even went with women into the bush,” he stated.

Gumi has previously participated in controversial dialogue efforts with armed groups in northern Nigeria, insisting that negotiations could help reduce violence and persuade militants to lay down their arms.
