Karoline Leavitt to Begin Maternity Leave, No Replacement Named by White House

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announces maternity leave ahead of her second child, with no replacement confirmed as officials consider interim briefing plans.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has announced she will soon go on maternity leave as she prepares for the birth of her second child, with the administration yet to name an acting replacement.

Addressing reporters on Friday, Leavitt said, “On a personal matter, this will likely be my last gaggle for some time. As you can see, I’m about ready to have a baby any minute.”

“I will see you guys very soon. I know you’ll be in very good hands with my team here at the White House. And I know all of you have the president’s phone number personally,” she added in a light-hearted remark.

No official timeline has been given for her return, and the White House has not confirmed who will take over daily briefings. However, Vice President JD Vance and other senior officials are expected to step in when necessary.

At 28, Leavitt remains the youngest individual to serve in the role and is already a mother to a son born in July 2024. She notably resumed work on President Donald Trump’s campaign shortly after his birth, following the July 13, 2024 assassination attempt on the Republican candidate.

Leavitt, who is married to Nicholas Riccio, has built a reputation as a sharp and assertive spokesperson, frequently clashing with reporters as part of the administration’s broader media strategy.

Even so, President Trump’s approval ratings have continued to slide across key policy areas despite her visible role in defending the administration.
