On Maryam Sanda Case: My Message to Married Women -By Fatima Abdullahi Modu

The Maryam Sanda case should not be treated as mere gossip or a courtroom spectacle. It is a mirror for all couples. Today, many marriages are fragile, easily shaken by suspicion, pride, and impatience. Social media pressure, financial stress, and lack of communication add more fire to emotional storms. But anger will never build a home. Only patience, forgiveness, and understanding can.

The tragic story of Maryam Sanda remains one of the most painful reminders that one moment of uncontrolled anger can destroy not just a marriage but entire destinies. It is a lesson every married woman and indeed every human being should take deeply to heart.

The story of Maryam Sanda is not just about crime and punishment; it is a reflection of what happens when emotions are left unchecked. It shows that when anger takes control, reason disappears. The Qur’an reminds us: “Those who restrain anger and pardon others Allah loves those who do good.” (Qur’an 3:134).If only she had paused to breathe, walked away, or prayed that night, everything could have been different.

Patience is not weakness; it is wisdom. It is strength under control and a form of worship before God. Marriage is not a playground of emotions but a sacred institution that demands patience, understanding, and self-restraint. Every home faces trials arguments, disappointments, misunderstandings but how we respond determines whether peace or tragedy follows. Maryam’s story teaches that a few minutes of anger can destroy what years of love built. Her husband’s life ended, her freedom vanished, and their little daughter was left without both parents. Two families once united by love are now divided by sorrow.

Every woman must remember that calmness is power. Silence in the face of provocation is not defeat; it is victory over temptation. When emotions rise, do not let your hands or tongue act before your heart thinks. If you must cry, cry. If you must walk away, walk away. But never make a permanent decision in a temporary moment of rage. When you hold your home together with calmness and prayer, you are not only preserving your marriage—you are also serving God.

To every married woman reading this: be patient, be prayerful, and be wise. The storms of marriage will come, but calmness will keep the ship afloat. Choose peace over pride, forgiveness over revenge, silence over reaction, and God over anger. Because when anger fades, only the consequences remain—and no one deserves to live in the shadow of regret.
