Scholes Reconciles with Carrick After Critique of Manchester United’s Form

Paul Scholes has reconciled with former teammate Michael Carrick, clarifying that his social media critique of Manchester United’s last four games was not meant to offend the interim manager.

Paul Scholes has reached out to former Manchester United teammate Michael Carrick, insisting he never meant to upset him after criticizing the interim manager on Instagram.

After United’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle last Wednesday, Scholes posted: “Michael has definitely got something special about him, because United have been c**p last four games.”

The defeat was Carrick’s first since replacing the sacked Rúben Amorim in January. United had previously gone unbeaten in his first seven matches and are now third in the Premier League, aiming for Champions League qualification.

Scholes, who shared seven years in midfield with Carrick, addressed the situation on ‘The Good, The Bad and The Football’ podcast alongside former United teammates Wes Brown and Nicky Butt.

“Michael is one of the nicest people you will ever meet in football – he’d be the last person I would want to offend,” Scholes said. “I messaged Michael anyway. I went straight to Michael and said, ‘Look, I never intended to upset you.’ He told me himself he wasn’t upset by it. People just took it differently from what was meant. I was only saying that I don’t think they played that well the last four games, and he’s still managing to get results.”
