Transitioning Nigeria to the Federal Republic of Tinubu: A Government Obsessed with Self-Praise While the Nation Burns -By Ajiboye Amos Olakunle

If Tinubu wants his name on buildings, let him build new ones, not steal existing ones. If he wants a legacy, let him fix the economy, secure the nation, and lift people out of poverty, not play monument rebranding games while Nigerians suffer.

Tinubu

Nigerians are suffering. The economy is in shambles. Inflation is crushing families. Unemployment is skyrocketing. Insecurity is spreading like wildfire. Yet, what is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s priority? Renaming every notable building, road, and institution after himself.

In less than two years, this administration has shown a shameless obsession with self-glorification, turning Nigeria into what seems like a personal branding project rather than a functioning democracy. While citizens groan under unbearable hardship, Tinubu and his cronies are busy slapping his name on airports, streets, and even military barracks, as if that will put food on people’s tables or stop kidnappers from terrorizing villages.

This isn’t governance; it’s a vanity-driven dictatorship in disguise. The Absurd List of “Tinubu Properties”, Because Performance Doesn’t Matter, Only Legacy Does

Here’s a quick rundown of how Nigeria is being forcefully rebranded into “Tinubu Republic” while the government ignores its actual duties:

1. Bola Ahmed Tinubu Airport, Minna, Because the collapsing economy needs a distraction.
2. Tinubu Way, Abuja, A road to nowhere, just like his policies.
3. Tinubu Building, National Assembly, Because lawmakers are too weak to resist this narcissism.
4. Tinubu Technology & Innovation Complex, Innovation? More like “how to rename things while doing nothing.”
5. Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa, Will it teach students how to survive hyperinflation?
6. Tinubu Barracks, Asokoro, Because soldiers need a reminder of who’s not protecting them.
7. Tinubu International Conference Center, Abuja, Perfect for hosting “Conferences on Failed Leadership.”

This isn’t just embarrassing, it’s a deliberate, calculated move to force Tinubu’s name into history while his government fails on every front.

The Constitutional Insult: Who Gave Tinubu This Power?

1. Where in the Constitution Does It Say a Sitting President Can Rename Everything After Himself?
Nowhere. The 1999 Constitution (as amended) does not grant the president the authority to unilaterally rename national assets. These changes should require National Assembly approval and public debate, but why follow the law when you can just impose your name everywhere?

2. Violation of Federal Character Principle
Section 14(3) of the Constitution demands fairness and national unity, not one man’s name on every federal property. If this continues, we might as well rename Nigeria “Tinubuland” and be done with it.

3. A Dangerous Precedent of Personality Cult Politics
This isn’t just about Tinubu, it’s about every future dictator-wannabe thinking they can plaster their name everywhere while looting the treasury. If we allow this now, what’s next? “President’s Face on the Naira Note”?

The Real Agenda: Distraction from Failure

Why is the government so desperate to rename everything? Simple:

• They have no real achievements, No economic recovery, no security improvements, no solutions to hardship.
• They want to manipulate history, By forcing Tinubu’s name into public spaces, they create a false sense of legacy.
• They’re testing how much they can get away with, If Nigerians stay silent, next time it will be worse.

Imagine This:
• A father refuses to feed his children but keeps engraving his name on the walls of their house.
• A doctor lets patients die but demands the hospital be renamed after him.

That’s exactly what’s happening here. Nigerians Must Resist This Nonsense. This isn’t just about names, it’s about accountability, transparency, and respect for democracy. If we let this slide, what’s the next step?

• “Tinubu General Hospital” (with no drugs inside)?
• “Tinubu University” (where students learn how to survive without jobs)?
• “Tinubu Democracy Square” (where protests are banned)?

Enough is Enough.
• The National Assembly must stop this madness, If they have any spine left, they should reject these renamings.
• The media must expose it, Keep calling out this shameless self-promotion.
• Nigerians must demand better, We deserve leaders who work, not just rename things.

Conclusion: From Nigeria to Tinubu’s Personal Estate? Not on Our Watch.

If Tinubu wants his name on buildings, let him build new ones, not steal existing ones. If he wants a legacy, let him fix the economy, secure the nation, and lift people out of poverty, not play monument rebranding games while Nigerians suffer.

This government must STOP avoiding its duties and focus on real governance. Otherwise, history will remember Tinubu not as a leader, but as a man who cared more about his name than his people.

If we don’t resist now, tomorrow’s children will ask: “Was Nigeria ever a country, or was it just Tinubu’s property?”

We must not let that happen.
