FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has predicted that he would be among the first politicians targeted by the opposition if President Bola Tinubu is defeated in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike said this while speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, monitored in Abuja on Wednesday.

The minister was reacting to the possibility of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) defeating Tinubu at the polls.

He said his open and consistent backing of Tinubu had placed him in a vulnerable position, but stressed that he was prepared to accept whatever political consequences might follow.

“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” Wike said.

He explained that he was fully aware of the risks associated with his support for the President but would not be intimidated into changing his position.

Wike said his primary political objective was now to ensure Tinubu wins another term in office, regardless of the personal cost.

“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he said.

The minister also said he was not concerned about the criticism and insults directed at him because of his alliance with Tinubu.

“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their [own] thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” he declared.

Wike maintained that he would continue to support Tinubu and campaign for his re-election despite opposition criticism and the possibility of facing political consequences if the President loses in 2027.
